The performances of the young kaval player, Georgi Dobrev, delight the visitors of the Bulgarian pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai during the traditional evening concerts. Georgi was born in 1994 in the town of Plovdiv (Bulgaria).

At the age of seven, he started playing the kaval (a traditional Bulgarian folklore instrument). He studied for twelve years at a music school in Plovdiv. In 2013, he was immediately accepted to study at The Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts in Plovdiv. During his student years, he performed as a soloist in the academy’s folk concert orchestra, as well as with many other groups.

Georgi Dobrev has won several first prizes from national competitions. He plays with a wide range of groups and performs concerts in Bulgaria and other countries. Since 2018, he is part from the “Medinea community”, as an artist. In July 2019, he participates in the “Jazzopen Stuttgart” Festival, with the band “Snej”.
 Now he is part of the project “I Silenti”, guided by the composer and saxophone player – Fabrizio Cassol.

In 2019 he recorded two instrumental pieces – “Gergyovska rachenitsa” and “Songs from Thrace”, arranged by his father, also a kaval player, Plamen Dobrev.
The concerts of the young kaval player take place every night at 6 pm in the Bulgarian pavilion until November 12th.
