On the 19th of October, Dr. Mariana Damova, the CEO at Mozaika, will participate in the Global Best Practice Programme segment of Expo 2020 Dubai during Space week. The Best Area event that dr. Damova is programming will be under the topic: Earth Observation and AI Solving Societal Challenges | Bulgaria. The topic will explore how the wealth of Earth observation data enables critical decision-making through AI synergy. The talk will take place at the BPA speaker’s corner (Opportunity Pavilion), at 3 pm and will start with opening remarks, followed by a presentation, a Q&A session, and a networking segment.

Dr. Mariana Damova is the CEO of Mozaika, The Humanizing Technologies Lab, which provides research and solutions in the field of data science, natural interfaces (human-computer interaction), knowledge management and human insight. Mozaika tries to leverage data science with natural interfaces to provide solutions tailored to human behavior, attitudes and comprehension. The company specializes in building information infrastructures that serve a variety of applications in data as a service or products based on different methods of artificial intelligence. It covers verticals like business information delivery, human resources management, cultural heritage, water resources management, earth observation for AI, historical archives, content mapping.

Dr. Mariana Damova’s background is in natural language processing, Semantic Web Technologies and AI, with a strong academic and industrial record in North America and Europe, as a C-level executive, having taught graduate courses and conducted research at several universities and lead international interdisciplinary teams with projects on various facets of knowledge management that carried technological risk. Dr. Damova holds a Ph.D. from the University of Stuttgart, and a mini MBA from McGill University. She currently teaches Semantic Web Technologies at the New Bulgarian University, regularly reviews books and articles for ACM ComputingReviews.com and has authored books and scientific articles in linguistics and semantic technologies.

The Global Best Practice Programme highlights projects from around the world that have provided impactful and sustainable interventions, with a view to expanding them elsewhere. During the space week the Best Practice Area will spotlight development solutions that have used innovative and collaborative approaches through the use of space tools and exploration.

The programme focuses on five areas that are in line with a number of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The jury has selected 25 projects from 1,175 submissions to the Global Call for proposals. The jury also handpicked 20 Untold Stories from around the world, which spotlight community initiatives and stories of impactful solutions for people and the planet.
