Bulgaria has participated in the third, and final, edition of “Children’s Tales From Around The World” – an impressive collection of 68 traditional children’s stories and folktales from 6 continents, collected by Expo 2020 Dubai.

The digital anthology celebrates diversity and inclusion and reflects Expo’s commitment to “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. It brings together poignant stories and colourful illustrations contributed by schoolchildren, professional artists and storytellers, as well as eminent cultural voices from every part of the globe.

Bulgaria participates with the folktale “Old People” (“Father’s advice”)  translated by Diana Nikolova and with the original illustrations by Tsvetelina Spiridonova, created especially for “Children’s Tales from Around the World”.

Available in English, the book features words and phrases from almost 50 languages, offering an arresting snapshot of storytelling cultures from some of Expo 2020 Dubai’s 190-plus participant nations. The stories have been chosen to help children aged 5 to 12 years explore new cultures and recognise common values, gain a greater appreciation of their own heritage, and develop a love of reading.

The third edition will be followed by an exclusive print collection, which will be published ahead of Expo’s opening on 1 October 2021. Here is what Danielle Green, Senior Manager, Products, Director General Office, Expo 2020 Dubai, says:

“We all need an inspiring escape this holiday season, no matter where we are spending it. And what better way than to delve into a one-of-a-kind collection of meaningful and entertaining tales that unites children across continents in a shared experience of reading and cultural exploration.”

“This final edition is a truly collective endeavour that brings together talented storytellers and artists – young and old – from all corners of the planet.”

Danielle Green

Boasting 25 new stories across two additional chapters, the updated collection has grown from its first edition, which launched in September 2020 with 24 stories, and has sparked a range of related initiatives around the world, from children’s drawing sessions to a Portuguese-language version of one of the tales and activities celebrating different cultures and tolerance through literature in schools.
